Why Some Women Are More Prone to Yeast Infections

You may have thought to yourself, why do I keep getting yeast infections? Do all women get them this frequently? Well, the fact of the matter is, some women have a higher risk of contracting yeast infections than others.

So, what causes frequent infections?

Several factors can cause recurrent yeast infections or more than four per year. Frequent use of antibiotics is one of the most common causes of yeast infections because antibiotics kill the bacteria that keep yeast fungus under control. Another common cause is wearing underwear or clothing that is tight-fitting or made of synthetic materials. Yeast infections flourish in warm, moist areas so the worst thing you can do is sit around in a wet bikini or sweaty workout clothes! Certain methods of birth control, such as the IUD or Depo shot, have been said to cause recurrent infections, as well.

Why am I more prone to getting them?

Your lifestyle choices play a large role. If you are guilty of any of the above risk factors, you may have a higher chance of contracting a yeast infection. Also, it may be in your genes. Many women naturally have yeast in their lady parts, in fact, up to 50 percent of women do! However, it does not always cause yeast infection symptoms. If you are someone that experiences these symptoms frequently, your doctor can write a prescription for an anti-fungal medication that will help prevent future infection and symptoms.]]>
